A little club atmosphere

The Street Bar has the feel of a members’ club without the initiation fee. Candlelight and older decorative details give the room a touch of neighborhood speakeasy, while cleaner, contemporary touches keep it connected to The Newbury around it. It feels classic without feeling frozen in time.

The balance is particularly good. A quiet buzz brings energy to the room without giving away its privacy, and the polished, professional crowd adds to the sense of an intimate gathering. There is enough going on to make a drink feel like an occasion, yet conversation remains part of the pleasure.

Beside the Public Garden, the bar feels entirely at home in its setting. It carries the hotel’s polish in a way that suits a date, business drinks or a catch up with friends. For a couple, a corner or window table is the appealing choice; a table nearer the center brings a group into the room’s energy.

Coffee takes the lead

The Espresso Martini is the stronger reason for a second round. Appropriately chilled, with a proper layer of foam and a strong coffee flavor, it gets the essentials right. Its coffee impression is subtler than the Fairmont’s version, but the balance is satisfying. Another glass feels like an easy decision.

The Signature Martini combines Plymouth and Tanqueray gins with Noilly Prat Dry and Carpano Bianco vermouths and bitters. Vermouth leads the drink, making it a solid choice if you prefer a cold, wet martini. It is less memorable than its name might suggest, though, and the cocktails as a whole have room to become more distinctive.

The welcome earns the return

Hospitality is the clearest strength. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable, explain the menu with confidence and adapt when an order needs adjusting. The pacing gives the evening an easy rhythm, with warmth that matches the room.

The Street Bar does not quite make the case for a Boston trip on its own. Once you are in the city, it makes a persuasive case for a return cocktail. Come for the atmosphere, settle into a good table and let the welcome do the rest.
